Gurkha Walk 2024: A Triumph in Memory of Victoria Cross Winners
The Gurkha Walk 2024 marked a successful and heartfelt tribute to the thirteen Victoria Cross-winning Gurkha veterans, drawing an impressive crowd of over 1500 attendees.
The event, a celebration of bravery, endurance, and community engaged in the Gurkha Run and Gurkha Walk, making it a memorable day.
Held under great weather and clear skies, the event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Damian Green MP, who applauded the participants and organisers for their dedication and spirit.
Gurkha Run Results
The 13.9 km Gurkha Run was the day’s highlight, showcasing outstanding performances in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Women’s Category:
Mary Rai – Mary Rai claimed first place with an impressive time of 1 hour and 24 minutes, demonstrating exceptional endurance and speed.
Man Kala Rai – Finishing second, Man Kala Rai completed the run in 1 hour and 33 minutes, showcasing her consistent performance.
Jenisha Thapa – Taking third place, Jenisha Thapa crossed the finish line in 1 hour and 37 minutes, rounding off the top three with a strong effort.
Men’s Category:
1. Til Bikram Sambahamphe – Dominating the men’s category, Til Bikram Sambahamphe finished the race in an impressive 59 minutes, breaking the one-hour mark.
2. Dil Limbu – Following closely, Dil Limbu secured second place with a time of 1 hour and 4 minutes, displaying remarkable stamina and pace.
3. Sanjib Limbu – Achieving third place, Sanjib Limbu completed the run in 1 hour and 6 minutes, earning his spot on the podium.
Celebration with Music and Talent
Following the run, attendees were treated to a lively musical program featuring professional singers Nation Pun, a top 5 finalist from Nepal Idol, and Man Maya Waiba.
Their performances energised the crowd and added a festive atmosphere to the event. Additionally, several amateur performers took to the stage, showcasing their talents and contributing to the vibrant celebration.
